Lovebird training is essential if you want a well behaved, easy to get along with bird that you can enjoy. Most people who get a bird however don’t even know their full potential. In fact, it is possible to go YEARS with a bird and believe that their behavior is untrainable. You might even think that it is simply their personality and that there is no way to change them. But this in fact untrue and most birds can learn how to stop biting, stop plucking, stop parrot screaming and even learn how to poop in one spot, it just takes a little education and perseverance from the bird owner.

Training lovebirds is not unlike training a dog; with the same love and reward system, most birds (even ones that don’t seem too bright) can pick up on your cues and learn some critical behavioral skills that will make living with them much easier. It is a sad fact that most bird owners buy a bird with absolutely no knowledge of how to care for them.

Feeding them and keeping them out of harms way is one thing, but did you know that you can actually train a lovebird how to spin, wave or even make a basket? These tricks of course are not the most important ones, it is much more important to get rid of any nasty habits they have first. But in the same process that you can use to do this, you can also train them do these fun tricks and all of this bonding makes for not only a happier bird owner, but also a much happier bird.

Learning how to train a lovebird just got a whole lot easier too. Instead of just using a book that probably will get you no where fast, technology has helped you out with some pretty easy to follow video tutorials. These videos are not fluff either, they aren’t using previously trained birds and showing you tricks, they are showing you from an unmanageable bird to a trained bird exactly what to do.

You can finally put an end to your bird’s annoying and disruptive habits and start living in harmony with one another. By slowly teaching your bird how to do certain things, you will increase the bond you have with each other, gain your lovebird’s trust and establish a relationship with your bird that you probably never thought possible.

Learn how to train lovebirds either for just your own benefit with your own bird, or take it to the next level and start making a living breeding lovebirds too. Once you learn how to handle these lovely birds, it will become second nature to take a difficult bird and turn it into one that gets along with everybody.

Training a lovebird is incredibly satisfying, there isn’t a better feeling than knowing that you can call your bird and have them come to you, easily step up on your finger, or even put a ball in a basket just by giving them a little love and some praise. These birds will truly amaze you by what they can do.

To start building a wonderful relationship with your bird today and STOP some of that awful behavior that drives you nuts CLICK HERE.

When most people hear the term “training lovebirds“, they probably think of getting rid of unwanted behavior. And while this is a great goal, as it will help improve the relationship and bond you have with your lovebird, lovebird training can consist of far more than the usual, stop parrot biting, stop chewing or learn how to NOT poop on you lessons. It can actually be surprising to most that not only can a lot of parrots learn to talk, but they can learn to respond to verbal commands to do just about anything, similar to training a dog.

How to Train a Lovebird To Flip or Spin

So how do you train a lovebird to do a trick? It is easier than you think, but will take a lot of love and persistent work. To begin, you will want to observe your bird and see if there is anything in particular that they already do. When you notice something that could be turned into a trick, you will want to reinforce that behavior using verbal commands and praising with love and treats when they comply. By doing this over and over again, your lovebird will make the connection and pretty soon do the things you ask of him.

To perform a flip or to lie flat on his back in your palm, start small. Begin tilting the bird slightly and immediately responding with praise when they go over a bit. Start increasing the angle each time and praise more and more. Pretty soon, they will feel comfortable with your touch and will be able to lie flat in your palm on their back. Praise goes a LONG way, with any animal. So freely give them love and praise when they do something you want and they will respond with that kind of behavior.

These kinds of techniques will also work when you are trying to eliminate a bad behavior, like lovebird biting. You have to slowly gain your bird’s trust and respond with kind and loving actions. Animals respond very well to positive praise, it is true across the board that you will get better results by being patient, loving and offering rewards than you will be responding with anger or frustration. So be patient and work a little each day on the skill you are trying to teach your bird, be it a trick or a behavior modification.

Training a Lovebird

It can be incredibly rewarding and fun to see your lovebird excel at a skill you are teaching them during the bird training sessions. When a breakthrough finally arrives you will definitely feel like celebrating, but pretty soon these tricks will seem like old hat and you will be left with a wonderfully behaved bird that is a lot of fun to be around. It can be great to get children involved in the process. Birds need to be engaged and loved everyday as they age; otherwise you could be left with a pretty obnoxious or ornery creature. To avoid this from happening, work with your lovebird on a regular basis and make sure they feel loved and cared for. The bond between a bird and its human is quite remarkable.
Want to know how to train a lovebird tricks? To do so there are some first steps you need to take before moving on to the real tricks. If you already have these initial steps taken, then check out these videos to learn more. Otherwise, read more below to get started.

Gain Trust

When you learn how to train a lovebird, you first need to gain your bird’s trust. This is especially true if your bird hasn’t been handled much or if it suffers from any unwanted lovebird behavior, like biting. To learn how to tame lovebirds it is important first to gain a lovebird’s trust, you do this by starting small. Begin with simply trying to get your lovebird to touch the tip of a stick (like a pencil’s eraser), when they successfully do so reward them with a treat or lots of praise, or both. Each time they do this, reinforce the behavior with positive actions, after you feel like your bird is ready to move on, start using the touch command with your hand/finger. This will slowly teach your bird that they can trust you and this will allow you to be able to handle them with confidence. Training a lovebird to like your hand is often the first step to many quick successes in the future, it can be a huge hurdle, but once you cross it you’ll be well on your way to training them many other things.

Reward Often

After trust has been established, it is time to move on to new tricks or new skills, like coming to you when called or ceasing the unwanted lovebird sounds. Each time you ask your bird to do something and he complies, reward with love and/or food. Positive reinforcement is key with lovebird training and any animal training really. Find out what type of treat your lovebird likes the most and always have some on hand. Sometimes love is enough, but other birds will train faster and more easily with their favorite treat like millet, sunflower seeds or for larger birds, nuts.

Perfect One Skill at a Time

Don’t overwhelm your lovebird with too many tricks at once; start with one trick or skill, perfect it and the move on to the next one when you are training lovebirds. The very first thing you will want to establish is trust between you and your bird and to make sure you bird is comfortable with you handling him. When he is clearly ready, you can start to teach your bird how to stop biting, how to step up and then some fun stuff like waving, turning around, or even putting a ball in a hoop.

After you have gained your lovebird’s trust, reward your bird with lots of love and treats, positive reinforcement will allow you to move quickly through the many tricks that lovebirds can learn. CLICK HERE for more parrot training tips

Learning how to train lovebirds will open many doors for you. Not only will it possibly help you handle a difficult lovebird at home, but once you learn the secrets to training lovebirds you can even start breeding lovebirds and make a living at it.

Learning how to train lovebirds will open many doors for you. Not only will it possibly help you handle a difficult lovebird at home, but once you learn the secrets to training lovebirds you can even start breeding lovebirds and make a living at it. Finding lovebirds for sale is a bigger market than you think, and if you can provide families with loving, hand-raised lovebirds that they can enjoy, you can easily make a living doing something you enjoy.

Figure Out Your Bird’s Talents: To start, you need to pay attention to your bird and see if they already have particular talents that you can start working on. If you see your lovebird doing something that you think you can apply verbal cues to, you will have a head start in training your lovebird to do tricks. For instance, if you see your bird flap his wings, start using a verbal command and positive reinforcement whenever you see him do it. He will start to realize the connection and pretty soon you’ll be able to get him to do that behavior on demand. This will make learning additional lovebird tricks much easier, you can either use a clicker to do this, or simply stay with verbal commands.

Give Your Lovebird Its Favorite Treat: Each bird is different, they all have their favorites, from millet to sunflower seeds, and some birds won’t even take a certain treat, while others will be all over it. If you aren’t using your lovebird’s favorite treat, then the positive reinforcement will be less effective. The of the most important steps in learning how to train a lovebird is to experiment until you find exactly which treat will get the best results. And don’t ever underestimate the power of love and verbal reinforcement. Some birds thrive with this kind of encouragement and don’t even need the treats.

Make Things Fun: Training a lovebird should be fun and a positive experience for the both of you. Make your training sessions fun and you will see fast results; lovebirds enjoy spending time with you and having interaction, especially in the form of learning something new. It is actually a little sad how many birds just sit in a cage all day and don’t get the attention a cat or dog would get, they are very similar in fact and can be trained in ultimately the same fashion. Guide them, reward them, and encourage them, pretty soon you’ll be amazed at how many things your lovebird can do.

The above may sound like it is geared toward training a lovebird to do tricks, but actually all of these points can be used when trying to tackle a huge problem like biting or chewing, feather plucking and more.

People looking for lovebirds for sale often want to find hand raised baby lovebirds that won’t bite them. If you want to get into lovebird breeding so you can make some money and help people find hand raised peach faced lovebirds or the other varieties, there are some steps you need to take first.

Know When to Pull the Babies From Mom and Dad

The tamest babies are generally taken from the parents between 10-14 days; you can pull the whole clutch when the youngest baby is between 9-10 days old. Try to avoid anything past 17 days, it gets harder to hand-raise them the older they become. Allow the lovebirds to keep warm by cuddling with each other in a brooder; you can make one using a plastic container covered with a lid with slits for air. Inside put a few inches of CareFresh Cage Liner and cover with untreated paper towels that you can replace each time you clean. It is very important that you change the paper towels regularly as baby lovebirds are very susceptible to bacterial infections. Use a fairly large container so that you can separate it into two sections; one side for cuddling and one for eating.

Get Properly Trained Before Feeding

If you can get someone who is properly trained at hand-feeding, you will be more confident that you know what you are doing; you do NOT want to starve the baby birds. Hand feeding isn’t an exact science, every bird is different and you must be sure that you aren’t getting any formula into the bird’s lungs. Four to five feedings a day is typical at first, Exact Hand-Feeding formula is excellent brand to use. Make sure the formula is between 103-105 degrees Fahrenheit, but some birds like the temperature colder, some hotter you have to see what your bird seems to prefer. You can kill a bird if the temperature is TOO hot so be sure to check it with a quality digital thermometer before feeding. If you use a microwave to heat your formula, stir it well to get rid of any hot spots and be sure to test the temperature again.

When to Introduce Other Foods

The earlier the better in most cases, around 21 days works best. You can give them millet, sunflower sprouts and crumbled Roudybush pellets. Change the type of food you give every day to avoid food phobias. If a lovebird is not exposed to enough foods, it is pretty common for them to avoid real food later in life. Around 5 or 6 weeks of age your lovebird may be ready to give up the syringe. You have successfully weaned your bird when it no longer cries for food and seems to be eating normally; it is always better to hand-feed too long than not long enough.

When to Sell the Lovebird

Wait 3 or 4 more days before you sell your lovebird to be sure that they are officially weaned. A bird’s appearance or vitality will change quickly if they were not quite ready to quit formula; this can also help prevent regression, when a bird is weaned too quickly, becomes insecure and is looking for mom. Try spoon feeding the bird the last few days of hand-feeding. This is something you can show the new owner in case the bird needs it once they have gone to a new home, it is less risky than a new owner trying to use a syringe.

Socialize the Bird

Aside from ensuring that a baby is properly fed, socializing is the next important step. Handle the lovebird between feedings as frequently as possible, the more times you can reach in and pick up the bird the better. Let the baby cuddle with you each night too, don’t just handle them at feeding time, it is important to hold them as often as you can. Continue to handle the bird even after you have weaned him, they can quickly go wild again if they are not consistently held.

Are you sick and tired of being bitten by your lovebird? Ready to learn how to train lovebirds not to bite so that you can finally handle them without fear of blood being drawn?

Are you sick and tired of being bitten by your lovebird? Ready to learn how to train lovebirds not to bite so that you can finally handle them without fear of blood being drawn? It is easier than you think, all you need is patience and the right training guide to help you achieve this goal.

One of the first steps in training your lovebird not to bite is to get them used to your hands. This can be accomplished first by teaching them how to “touch” something like a pencil and then gradually making that something your finger.

Having them eat out of your hand is a great way to build trust also, it can be a nice bonding time together while you feed your bird their favorite treat. I personally had a lovebird that ONLY liked to bite, it was a game to her, unfortunately I had no idea that you could train them NOT to bite until it was too late, it makes me sad to think of all of the bonding times we could have shared if I had just had the right guide to show me how.

Click Here to Get the Guide I Wish I’d Had

I now have a Blue Fisher’s Lovebird that is very sweet, but a little bit afraid of things, I am currently working with him to trust me more and learn to step up on my fingers. He recently started biting more, as lovebirds are known to do as they age, but I am confident that this guide will help me nip this behavior in the bud (pun intended.)

We love our lovebirds no matter if they bite or not, but it is much nicer to not be afraid of your bird, for not just you, but the bird too. It is more fun to be invited out of the cage to hang out with their owners than to sit lonely in their cage. Training your lovebird not to bite is the first step to many fun and exciting tricks and skills they can learn.

Birds are smart! And they get bored easily, often times this can be the cause of damaging behavior, like lovebird plucking, as well as biting. When you take the time to train your lovebird, biting becomes only one of the things you can teach them not to do. You’ll be amazed by the many things you can teach them TO do. I personally had no idea before I found this guide that lovebirds could learn how to do tricks, my bird before was fairly independent and had her own little quirks, but tricks? If only I’d known, the fun we could have had!

Hopefully now that you know about this guide, you will get it, learn how to stop the lovebird biting and start teaching them even more fun lovebird tricks. Lovebirds are great companion birds full of personality, finding out how to train lovebirds not to bite is only the beginning of the adventure you can have together.

These videos are the best I’ve seen out there, not only do they deal with behavior problems, but there are tons of videos on how to teach a lovebird a trick (or any bird really.)

You’ll see right away this guy knows what he is doing, so even if you don’t have any bird behavior problems to deal with (which if that’s true count yourself lucky!) the lovebird tricks you can learn with these videos are awesome. The simple techniques (that most of us DON’T KNOW) are necessary to see success, and I don’t know about you, but without someone showing me what to do I’m completely at a loss.
When you start training a lovebird, you first have to build some trust and get them used to your hands. Lovebirds can be difficult to train sometimes, and unless you work with them often, they can easily get "untrained" too.

When you start training a lovebird, you first have to build some trust and get them used to your hands. Lovebirds can be difficult to train sometimes, and unless you work with them often, they can easily get “untrained” too. So be consistent, have a lot of patience and work with them everyday.

Before you start taming a lovebird you should get their wings clipped by your vet. I recommend a veterinarian because you don’t want your bird to start hating you before the training has even started. Once your bird is used to you, it is fine later to be the one who clips their wings.

After their wings are clipped and they can no longer escape, it is time to get them into a small room. A bathroom works great, or even a small closet as long as there aren’t any small places for them to hide. Close toilet lids and cover mirrors and get your lovebird onto a T-Stand.

At first, your bird is probably going to try to fly away, especially when you go near them with your hands. But eventually when your bird realizes that it can fly and you have to rescue it anyway from the floor, they will probably stop and instead stay on the T-Stand.

Approach your bird slowly with your hand and touch their belly and ask them to “step-up”. More often than not, they will refuse, but keep trying. Be persistent and patience. Have some of your birds favorite treats on hand too and make sure you reward them whenever they do something good. It may take more than one session to get your lovebird to step-up, but it’ll happen.

Once you have started to tame your bird they will start to bond with you and trust you more and more. When this has happened you will be able to start teaching them other tricks too. Check out this great video guide that can help you through all of these steps, visit Training Your Parrot.

These video training courses also address the many different problems your bird may have, like biting, aggression, screaming, feather plucking, you name it. So if you have any problems with your bird at all, I highly recommend this course.

If the above lovebird taming methods do not work for your bird, then it will definitely be necessary to take more aggressive action; especially if your bird is rather nasty and won’t even let you near it. The bird expert in these videos has helped thousands with similar problems and has even taught people to tame their birds in 24 hours to 2 weeks, so don’t think your bird can’t be taught. You just need to know the right way to go about it.
